Lepone.

Mechatronics student at UOW and Mechanical Engineer Intern at Hysata, where I've spent two years designing and building hardware for the world's most efficient green hydrogen electrolyser. Originally from Italy, now building things in Australia.

01  /  About

The short story.

Growing up between Italy and Australia, I was always pulled in two directions. Turns out engineering is the same, part art, part science, never quite one thing.

I'm studying Mechatronics at UOW and spending my weeks at Hysata in Port Kembla, where I joined as one of the first three interns and have been here ever since, taking components from CAD to the production floor on some of the most technically demanding hardware I've touched.

Two years at a startup moves fast. I've watched Hysata grow from early funding rounds to high-pressure product delivery, and been hands-on through all of it. CAD and mechanical design, manufacturing, fabrication, embedded programming, project management.

Not many internships give you that kind of range, and I don't take it for granted. I care about parts that get built, equipment that gets used, and problems worth the hours. Green hydrogen feels like one of those.

Where I've been useful.

Nov 2024 — Present

Port Kembla, NSW

Mechanical Engineer Intern @ Hysata

  • Owned mechanical components end-to-end for high-efficiency electrolysers — concept, CAD, DFM, fabrication, testing, deployment.
  • Released production-ready parts in Siemens NX + Teamcenter PLM with GD&T and tolerance stack-ups.
  • Supported robotic welding development; operated Class IV laser welders, waterjet, and laser cutters for in-house parts.
  • Programmed C++/Arduino jigs and fixtures to automate test and assembly; supported electrical and mechanical diagnostics.
  • Authored SOPs, risk assessments, and BOMs; tracked concurrent builds in JIRA and Teamcenter.
  • Trained team members to operate and maintain the equipment I shipped.

Autumn — Spring 2024

University of Wollongong

Student Ambassador @ Engineers Australia

  • Represented the engineering student community at events; promoted engagement and developed leadership skills.

Things I've built.

Honours Thesis · 2027

Electroless Nickel-Plated Bipolar Plates

Developing a nickel plating process for stainless-steel bipolar plates that cuts material cost while preserving long-term corrosion resistance. A transferable approach for any industry that needs cheaper parts that stay rust-free.
